Good first-level adventures aren't always easy to find. First, you need a story that's interesting enough to get the players involved. And then there's the problem of matching the challenge to the party. On one hand, everyone gets tired of fighting the same old kobolds and goblins again and again. But if it's too tough, your campaign is over almost before it begins.

"Death in Freeport" manages to avoid these obstacles, while providing a strong foundation for a new campaign. The story itself is relatively straightforward -- find a missing priest. That simple beginning, however, can lead in some very interesting directions. Even when the characters pick up the trail of the abductors, there are still a couple twists to keep them guessing. What I enjoyed most is the way the author Chris Pramas gives Freeport a living personality of its own (complete with a hidden dark side).

This adventure does have its drawbacks. The artwork is somewhat inconsistent; while the city map looks outstanding, the interior illustrations are average at best. And the story is a bit weak in places. But even with these minor flaws, I think you get a lot of value for your money. I also want to withhold final judgment on the plotline until I see the next two releases of this 3-part series.

Ultimately, that may be the best way to judge "Death in Freeport": if it piques your interest enough to continue with the next module. For me, the answer was definitely yes.

This book focuses on starting out your character on an adventure which shows you the basics of the dnd rpg. It is to get you started. After you do this adventure with your friends you will be able to go on to harder and more interesting things. As a starting player you expect a lot of action. Not talking and blabing. This module provides that and shows you what a rpg is soposed to be like. It gives you action, suspence, and a bit of comedy as well. It gets your levels up quicker than anyother starting module I have ever played. I would highly recomend this product to anyone who is starting dnd or is dm'ing a group of starters.

After running my gaming group through Death in Freeport, I was excited to pick up Terror in Freeport. The second installment in Greenronin's D&D d20 campaign world is a worthy module.... Terror builds upon the plot lines established in Death in Freeport. Players learn more about the history of the city, both recent and ancient. The reach of the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign expands in the adventure, through all levels of Freeport. Ultimate goals of the Brotherhood are hinted at, great teaser for future modules.

If you enjoyed Death in Freeport, Terror in Freeport will not let you down. Lots of mystery to go along with the combat. Hack and slashers may get bored with the thinking involved (smile), but a skilled DM can always throw in a few extra combats.

Keep in mind that this is a city based adventure with minor 'dungeon' adventuring.
